OMG A FFXI TOPIC! I haven't ever played WoW, but as fall already said i do avidly play FFXI. No matter which you choose I will tell you flat out it will suck up more of your time then you could ever possibly imagine....ever. They're pretty addicting, and you really need to make sure you don't let yourself get too engrossed in them as they can have a very negative effect on your life. Conversely they can also be very positive. I've made a ton of friends in game and met all sorts of different people. I really enjoy it. I'll 2nd what fall and others have said about friends. These games are immense, but they are incredibly boring and lonely if you don't have a good group of friends to play them with. My only other advice i can offer is FFXI has gotten much easier over the years, but it's still much more time consuming and difficult than WoW is from everything i've ever read from folks that play both.
